Energy Efficiency & Carbon Management

Facility Energy Audits

Nexant administers and manages utility audit, retrocommissioning, and retrofit programs and performs onsite audits of energy-using systems, whole buildings, and multi-facility sites ("campuses" or "fleets" of buildings). Our engineers and analysts have experience in auditing and evaluating virtually all building systems, from office lighting to industrial process equipment.

Our audit reports provide retrofit and/or operational recommendations accompanied by initial cost estimates, estimated energy and demand savings, lifecycle cost analysis, and payback period for each recommended measure. They also include a profile of the site's carbon footprint and the carbon impact of the recommended energy efficiency measures.

Typical audits include:

  • Walkthrough scoping audits
  • Integrated audits (identifying energy efficiency, demand response feasibility, and onsite/self-generation opportunities, and including no-cost and low-cost measures, as well as capital investment options)
  • Investment-grade audits (including detailed building simulations, submetering and monitoring, and analysis of situations that cause load profile variations on short and longer term bases)

Post-audit, we work with the facility owner to prioritize measures in light of project economics, potential interactions among efficiency measures, and any pre-existing plans that might affect either the timing of projects or outcomes.
