EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT
Basem Sarandah
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Sarandah is the founder and CEO of Nexant, Inc. and has over 28 years of experience in managing consulting and technology development organizations. Prior to leading the formation of Nexant in 2000, Mr. Sarandah was a principal vice president of Bechtel Group, Inc. and general manager of Bechtel's Technology and Consulting (BTeC) unit and Bechtel Software, Inc (BSI). During his tenure, BTeC emerged as a leading provider of technology commercialization and consulting services, and BSI became a leading developer of engineering and work-process software products. Earlier, Mr. Sarandah was vice president and manager of business development for Bechtel's Research and Development operation, where he was responsible for commercializing advanced energy, process, applied physics, and engineering and construction technologies. Mr. Sarandah started his career as a strategy analyst at the Institute of Asian Pacific Studies and as a management consultant with Arthur D. Little in San Francisco. He has an M.B.A. from San Francisco State University and an M.A. in economics and B.S. in physics from the University of San Francisco.
Daniel J. Miller
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Miller directs Nexant's finance, accounting, and information technology corporate service groups, and also leads the financing and investment initiatives to support Nexant's strategic growth plans, overseeing both investment and capital raising activities as well as mergers and acquisitions. He brings over 20 years of professional finance and accounting experience to Nexant, most recently as senior vice president and CFO of NebuAd, Inc., developer of digital media and marketing solutions for online advertising. He began his career as a senior accountant with Deloitte & Touche, subsequently serving as senior treasury manager for Genentech, Inc. and corporate controller for Extreme Networks, Inc. before moving on to more senior roles. Mr. Miller is a certified public accountant and holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and an undergraduate degree from John Carroll University.
Martin Milani
Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Milani is Nexant's CTO responsible for directing the development of the company's advanced energy software applications and tools. He is an industry-recognized thought-leader and expert on SOA with more than 20 years of experience in distributed systems architecture, product design, and development spanning the evolution of distributed systems. He joined Nexant from Tidal Software (acquired by Cisco Systems), a leading provider of business process automation solutions for the enterprise, where he was CTO. Mr. Milani joined Tidal Software in 2006 through the acquisition of Intersperse Inc. (funded by Kleiner Perkins), a leading provider of monitoring and management solutions for the service-oriented enterprise, where he was president, CEO, and CTO. Prior to Intersperse he was CTO of iBuilding, a web services process-flow management and orchestration company where he led the design, application development, product management, support, and consulting teams. Under his leadership, iBuilding was named by CIO magazine as providing one of the 100 most innovative products of 2001. Previously, Mr. Milani was at the Times Mirror Corporation where he held the positions of chief internet technologist and strategist as well as chief enterprise architect for Times Mirror and the Los Angeles Times. Before joining Times Mirror, he held senior-level technology, consulting, and distributed system architect positions at Wells Fargo, IBM, Retix, and Locus computing. His areas of expertise include: massive parallel systems, asynchronous messaging systems, distributed operating systems and kernels, directory services, enterprise application integration, and systems and network management. Mr. Milani received a B.S. in computer science with a minor in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh.
Deborah Forhan Rimmler
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Ms. Rimmler is Nexant's general counsel, responsible for the company's contracts, legal, and corporate communications services. She began her tenure with Nexant as a consultant for World Bank and USAID-funded energy efficiency projects in Southeastern Europe before joining Nexant's in-house legal team. She previously worked as a legal and management consultant to the France Growth Fund, a closed-end mutual fund listed on the New York Stock Exchange. She began her career as an attorney in the General Counsel's office of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in Washington, D.C. While there, she became the director of business development for the Caspian Finance Center, a regional project office located in Ankara, Turkey combining the efforts of USTDA, the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Ms. Rimmler has an LL.M. in international and comparative law from Georgetown University, a J.D. from Southwestern University, and a B.A. in political science from Boston College.

Terry Fry
Senior Vice President, Demand Management
Mr. Fry directs energy efficiency program services and strategic consulting studies in North America, where he oversees hundreds of energy performance analyses each year. He has been an active proponent of economically efficient energy production and use for more than 25 years, and has served as advisor on energy industry restructuring policies and regulations that encourage energy efficiency, focusing on economics of environmentally friendly technologies, demand-side management, and private sector services. In addition to his technical knowledge concerning the interplay between industry and regulation, Mr. Fry is also an accomplished industry educator and writer, having conducted numerous energy efficiency seminars, lectured at universities in China, Britain, and the U.S., and designed and delivered many training programs. He has also led and participated in numerous assignments on end-use energy efficiency, market development, institutional assessment, regulatory development, and efficient power production in countries around the world, including China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Korea, Macau, Macedonia, Mexico, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as for investor-owned utilities in North America. His energy-related expertise includes economic and policy analysis; program planning, design, and development; and program management and evaluation. Mr. Fry holds an M.Phil in economics and politics of development from Cambridge University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
Paul R. MacGregor
Senior Vice President, Clean Energy Markets
Dr. MacGregor manages Nexant's clean energy markets business, responsible for developing and delivering offerings to verify and monetize both renewable energy and energy efficiency transactions. He has over 20 years of experience in leading new market and technology developments as well as managing corporate operations in the areas of clean energy markets, energy trading and risk management, and electric power systems. Dr. MacGregor was the co-founder of Neuwing Energy Ventures LLC, where he developed innovative approaches to securing and delivering long-term supplies of clean energy to major utilities and energy-users. He is credited with having spearheaded development of the first commercial energy efficiency certificate (EEC) program in the United States. Dr. MacGregor holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in electrical engineering and an M.S. in technology and science policy—all from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

M. Kemal Çelik
Vice President, Distribution Software
Dr. Çelik directs the design, development, and implementation of distribution network operations and planning applications, with emphasis on integrating smart grid technologies. He has over 25 years of professional experience working on a wide range of projects encompassing both traditional electric distribution and transmission grid operations and planning as well as analytical network applications for deregulated electricity markets. His expertise also includes utility control center applications, power quality analysis applications, and competitive electricity industry operations. Prior to his current assignment, he was instrumental in successfully deploying Nexant's key enterprise software applications—TrakSmart®, installed at major U.S. utilities—and i-Hedge™, deployed to both ERCOT and California ISO. Dr. Çelik holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech University. In addition, he is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and has co-authored more than 20 technical papers.
Narasimham Vempati
Vice President, Transmission & Markets Software
Dr. Vempati manages Nexant's transmission grid and electricity markets software business unit, responsible for the delivery and support of Nexant's transmission network analysis applications and financial transmission rights systems for various North American ISOs. He has over 22 years of experience in the electric power industry, including research and development, product testing, and customer training and support. He has designed and developed analytical techniques and software principally related to sparse matrix techniques, network topology analysis, generalized state-status estimation, and fault analysis. In his current capacity, Dr. Vempati oversees multi-disciplinary teams that are responsible for the creation of business requirements as well as the design, development, testing, delivery, and implementation of comprehensive web-based systems and applications. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in electric power engineering from the University of Texas (Arlington), and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Chennai, India). In addition, he is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Douglas Welsh
Vice President, Transmission & Distribution Services
Mr. Welsh is responsible for developing and managing consulting services for Nexant's electricity market and transmission clients. He has over 18 years of experience in the energy industry. He joined Nexant from GE's Energy Consulting group where he was manager of software products responsible for production simulation, resource reliability, powerflow, and dynamic simulation applications. In this role he developed a unique tool for evaluating the operation and value of thermal generation in competitive electricity markets, and led efforts that greatly improved the speed and flexibility of the software. He also performed numerous economic analyses on power generation and natural gas opportunities while at GE, including methods for valuing peaking plants, tradeoff analysis for fuel cell R&D, and support for acquisitions. Prior to GE, he was a software product manager and consultant at Power Technologies, Inc. Mr. Welsh holds an M.B.A from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Iowa State University. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Bruce Burke
Senior Vice President, Consulting (Americas)
Mr. Burke manages Nexant's energy and chemicals consulting business in the Americas. He has over 30 years of technical and management experience in the refining, energy, and petrochemical industries. He came to Nexant from the former Chem Systems operation, which Nexant acquired from IBM in 2001. Before joining Nexant, he spent 19 years with Chem Systems as a global consultant and vice president managing numerous technical, economic, commercial, and financial engagements associated with the energy and chemical sectors. An experienced project manager, he has performed engagements in the Americas, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Mr. Burke began his career with Gulf Oil corporation, and holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Richard Sleep
Senior Vice President, Consulting (Europe, Africa, Middle East)
Mr. Sleep is based in Nexant's London office, where he is responsible for the company's regional energy and chemicals consulting activities in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He has 30 years of experience of petrochemical business, including engineering and production, business management, trading and consulting. In addition, he has extensive experience in strategic planning and development of internet-based planning tools; marketing and management of petrochemical businesses; and energy and chemicals commercial analysis and forecasting techniques. Previously, he was responsible for developing and managing Nexant's ChemSystems Online®—a global petrochemicals industry database and simulation platform. He holds a B.S. (Hons) in mechanical engineering from Bristol University and a Professional Certificate in Management from the Open University (UK).
Andrew Spiers
Senior Vice President, Consulting (Asia)
Dr. Spiers is based in Nexant's Bangkok office, where he is responsible for managing the company's energy and chemicals consulting activities in the Asia Pacific region. He has over 30 years of commercial and management experience in the energy and chemicals business and has provided strategic advisory services to major corporations globally. He has consulted extensively throughout the Middle East, CIS, and across Asia. Assignments have included providing support to the successful financing of numerous projects, from due diligence support to mergers and acquisitions, feasibility studies, and national masterplanning in diverse countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Previously, with Shell Chemicals, Dr. Spiers served as chemicals marketing manager, product manager, and research technologist. He received a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in chemistry from Nottingham University, UK.
