WI - Building Systems HVAC Expert / Consultant - Energy Efficiency & Carbon Management


Location:  Madison, WI

Job Description

We are currently seeking a senior engineer or project manager to serve as an expert in commercial building systems/HVAC to support building retrocommissioning, commercial energy efficiency, and advanced building design projects in our Energy & Carbon Management business unit. The position will be based in our Madison, WI office. Successful candidates must demonstrate ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. Our clients include public agencies, investor-owned utilities administering ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs, energy end users, and energy service companies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide retrocommissioning services for existing buildings / systems
  • Conduct energy audits (both scoping- and investment-grade) at medium to large commercial facilities to identify and recommend energy efficiency improvements
  • Provide design assistance to support energy efficient and/or green building construction
  • Complete building and energy modeling, analysis, and simulation to quantify energy impacts of recommendations
  • Write technical reports
  • Maintain quality control of deliverable products, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules
  • Provide advanced technical direction to junior staff
  • Meet with clients to co-manage projects, present results, and develop new scopes of work
  • Meet overall project budgets and profitability targets
  • Manage up to three full-time engineers

Job Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in mechanical, architectural, electrical, or civil engineering strongly preferred; P.E. strongly preferred; LEED AP preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience within the HVAC design, commissioning, energy management, facility management, and/or energy efficiency industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and specification of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation/controls; commissioning test procedures, schematic diagrams, and specifications; building and energy modeling / simulation tools (e.g., Trace, DOE-2, eQuest, TRNSYS)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
