Environmental Credit Products

Nexant provides business, utilities, and institutions renewable energy and energy efficiency through certificates and carbon dioxide credits through offsets. Every Nexant environmental credit product is certified to meet nationally recognized standards such as Green-e for renewable energy or the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) for CO2 offsets.

Renewable Energy Certificates

Renewable energy certificates (RECs) or "green tags" are financial instruments representing the environmental attributes (CO2, SO2, NOx, and other emissions) derived from generating electricity from renewable energy sources. These financial instruments are traded in the form of certificates that are expressed as megawatt-hours of electricity. Nexant provides renewable energy from certified renewable sources including solar energy (photovoltaic and solar thermal), wind, small hydro, biomass, geothermal, and landfill gas.

Energy Efficiency Certificates

Energy efficiency certificates (EECs) or "white tags" are financial instruments representing the environmental attributes (CO2, SO2, NOx, and other emissions) derived from reducing electricity use from energy efficiency projects. These financial instruments are traded in the form of certificates that are expressed as megawatt-hours of electricity. Nexant provides energy efficiency from certified sources of energy use reduction including heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC), lighting, motor drives and pumps, demand response, energy management, and cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP).

Carbon Dioxide Credits

Carbon dioxide (CO2) credits or greenhouse gas (GHG) emission offsets are financial instruments representing the environmental attributes (CO2 and other greenhouse gases) derived from reducing GHG emissions from offset projects. CO2 credits are traded in the form of certificates that are expressed as metric tons of emissions. Nexant provides CO2 offsets from certified sources of GHG emission reduction including methane from agriculture, wastewater and landfill, thermal-based energy efficiency, and certain renewable energy projects.
