ENERGY TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANTS—SAN FRANCISCO, CA

We currently have several openings in the Energy Technology practice based in our San Francisco headquarters. The Energy Technology practice provides advanced energy technology consulting services to a diverse portfolio of private sectors and government clients, including due diligence and "fatal flaw" analyses, system engineering design and feasibility studies, market assessments, and project developments, as well as engineering, construction, and operation of pilot demonstration units. Some of the key technical areas involved are: gasification of coal, petroleum coke, and biomass; syngas based power co-production of liquid fuels and chemicals; advanced power generation; greenhouse gas capture and sequestration, emission controls; fuel cells and solar energy; hydrogen production, delivery and utilization; and natural gas processing, conversion, and utilization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate performance of advanced energy systems—power, fuels, chemicals, refinery, and environmental controls
  • Develop conceptual process plant designs by preparing material and energy balances, utility requirements, process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, equipment sizing, and cost estimates
  • Conduct process tradeoff analyses and technical and economic feasibility assessments
  • Participate in technology R&D programs to design, construct, and operate pilot demonstration plants
  • Perform market analyses, and assist with project development

Qualifications

The ideal candidates must have good engineering and communications skills, be able to work independently, and be comfortable in dealing with leading-edge technologies. Candidates should have the following qualifications:
  • B.S. or advanced degree in chemical engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5 to 10 years work experience in the relevant areas
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Proficiency in computer-aided process design and basic PC software (Microsoft Office)
