PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT—TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION—SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Nexant's Electric Power business unit is currently seeking an experienced professional for its transmission and distribution (T&D) consulting practice. This position is located in our San Francisco office, and involves a mix of business development, project management of consultant teams and technical consulting. Although the position will focus primarily on the North American electric industry; there will also be opportunities to perform work overseas. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the technical, strategic and economic issues related to the electric T&D business.

Responsibilities

  • Support business development and strategic and business planning related to the T&D practice
  • Manage teams of consultants to complete small to medium sized projects
  • Provide direction and oversight of the business unit's consulting in the areas of power system planning and operations, transmission system business planning, and strategic planning
  • Participate as a consultant on electric industry projects for U.S. and international clients (may require traveling about 20% of the time)
  • Support Nexant's other business units in performing cross-functional consulting projects or developing business growth opportunities
  • Organize and participate in technical training classes

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; master’s or M.B.A a plus
  • At least 15 years of experience in the electric utility industry, with at least 5 years of experience in a consulting environment
  • Extensive project management experience
  • Solid technical knowledge of the U.S. T&D business including (but not limited to) planning, operations, maintenance, business planning, protection, policy setting, and industry standards
  • Demonstrated business development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and to manage multiple projects
  • Experience with financial analysis and business planning
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills
