DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR—CHANDLER, AZ

Based in Chandler, AZ, Nexant's Software and Information Systems business unit is an engineering and consulting group with a reputation for building cutting-edge software solutions for our clients. Due to a major expansion agenda, we have a need for a hands-on and talented database administrator to join our team as a regular, full-time employee. Local candidates preferred, but we will offer a relocation package to the right candidate!

Job Description

The database administrator (DBA) will be working closely with the rest of the Software and Information Systems global development team and will be primarily responsible for helping to support a numerous databases across different platforms maintained by the team. The DBA will also be the lead architect for database expansions and new initiatives.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science (M.S. is preferred) and excellent communications skills, with the ability to work in a team environment. We are looking for a motivated candidate having hands-on database knowledge and 3-5 years of work experience, with a focus on the following areas:

  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005, Oracle 9i/10g, and MySQL 5.0
  • Monitoring performance for all supported databases
  • Maintaining database backup and recovery infrastructure
  • Ensuring database integrity, stability, security, and system availability
  • Making requested changes, updates, and modifications to database structure and data
  • Integrating databases with front end web servers if applicable
  • Providing design recommendations for database system development and upgrades
  • Operating databases within Windows, Solaris/UNIX, and Linux environments
  • Participating in and contributing to group IT projects and business practices
  • Owning and maintaining documentation for database architecture and database server infrastructure
  • Participating in disaster recovery and business continuity planning with respect to high database availability
  • Playing a proactive role in identifying and helping to resolve critical issues that may arise

Database Skills

  • MCDBA certification or Oracle database administration certification required
  • Minimum of 3 years administrative experience with both Microsoft SQL, Oracle; and 2 years on MySQL
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Linux, Unix (IBM AIX and SUN Solaris)
  • Minimum 2 years of web design and/or web administration experience
  • Basic network TCP/IP understanding
