Former Neuwing Executive Paul MacGregor to Head New Energy Team

April 21, 2008---San Francisco, CA---
Nexant, Inc. (www.nexant.com), the global energy software and consulting firm, announced today that Dr. Paul MacGregor has joined the company as vice president of clean energy solutions.

MacGregor is the co-founder of Neuwing Energy Ventures LLC, where he developed innovative approaches to securing and delivering long-term supplies of clean energy to major utilities and energy-users. He is credited with having spearheaded development of the first commercial energy efficiency certificate (EEC) program in the United States, helping to make Neuwing the nation’s leading EEC verifier and marketer.

The demand for clean—or green—energy is growing rapidly, with approximately 25 states mandating renewable energy certificates (RECs) and six states mandating EECs. These certificates are financial instruments that represent the environmental attributes derived from generating electricity from renewable energy sources or conserving electricity from energy efficiency projects. Even without federal legislation, the demand for clean energy is doubling every 3 years, a rate of growth that renewable energy sources cannot keep pace with. This shortfall in renewable energy supply opens the door for EECs to help meet the demand for green energy.

“Nexant is already an industry leader in energy and carbon management,” said Basem Sarandah, Nexant president and CEO. “With Paul and his team of experts—Tom Flynn, Kevin Bedford, Ken Coste, and Al Forte—all joining us from Neuwing, we will unquestionably have in place a blue-ribbon group of industry specialists who will not only reinforce our leadership position in energy and carbon management, but also help us develop new offerings to verify and monetize both renewable energy and energy efficiency transactions.”
