- Case study for confidential client
Nexant personnel were involved in performing case studies dealing with
assessment of market risks and asset exposure for a confidential client.
As part of the project, financial analysis was performed to determine
return versus risk characteristics of each asset. Recommendations were
made regarding outsourcing and improving performance of impaired assets.
- Locational marginal pricing study
for Bechtel Enterprises
This project involved an assessment of the California ISO transmission
system for price differentials between nodes due to congestion. Using
advanced state-of-the-art power system software tools, a security constrained
dispatch (SCD) was performed and locational marginal prices (LMPs) were
obtained at each node in the power system network. Finally, generation
investment decisions were evaluated on the basis of perceived locational
advantage a generating unit might have on pricing using LMPs as a guideline.
- Technology and market assessment for Perseus
Capital LLC
The scope of this project included an assessment of transmission technology
from a venture capital point of view. The study resulted in the identification
of a few promising, new, high-growth technologies in which a venture
capitalist may invest. Issues related to viability of technologies,
commercialization, and futuristic trends in transmission technology
were evaluated.
- Patent search for Singapore Power
This study examined a newly developed power quality device technology,
its economic viability, and its potential commercialization in global
markets. The new PQ device was also studied and compared with other
similar devices and patent rights were examined.
- Utility rate case design for confidential
client
Nexant was involved in providing consulting services for a utility rate
case design for a confidential client. The scope of work included determining
total revenue requirements, optimum capital and operating investment,
and rate impacts.
